About Thornley Silver
Emma Picton is the designer maker behind Thornley Silver. Her influences are many and varied with ideas often coming from the natural environment and used to create a range of contemporary jewellery pieces.
Using a variety of traditional silversmithing techniques, all of her jewellery is hand crafted from 925 Sterling Silver, often incorporating textures and semi precious gemstones to create a unique and individual range of products.
Meet The Maker
Making, designing and creating has always been a passion of mine. My creative career began as a glass designer / maker after completing my degree in glass and ceramics at the University of Sunderland. After learning and practicing silversmithing as a hobby for several years I decided to turn it into a business and in 2018, Thornley Silver was born.
Hammers and Gemstones
All of my jewellery is made using traditional silversmithing techniques – hammers, blow torches, saws and pliers are the types of tools I use regularly in the workshop.
Each piece is handmade entirely from scratch from 925 sterling silver, with no components (other than chains and earring scrolls) being bought in ready made. Where required, my work is hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office.
Much of my work includes semi precious gemstones, I’m something of a magpie and can’t resist the stunning rainbow of colours available.
Get to Know Me
Based in the North East of England, I exhibit regularly at events in the region throughout the year where you can see my work, try some on and maybe treat yourself. The events are a great opportunity for me to meet fellow makers, and of course get to know my lovely clients. If you’re in the area and visiting a show I’m at, please do pop by and say hello!
Do follow my Facebook page @ThornleySilver and sign up to my email newsletter to keep up with whats happening in the Thornley Silver world, and drop me a line if you have any queries. I hope you enjoy what you see and enjoy wearing my jewellery. Many thanks for visiting,
